Can you believe it? The day has finally arrived, a day we have been waiting for since the end of last summer…THE FIRST DAY OF CAMP! It was such a thrill to get the call that the busses were at the gate and to seem them pulling up the road. Mark greeted every bus and you could tell that he was just as excited as the campers. Once the busses parked and the campers got off, they were immediately told what bunk they were in (although, I am not sure how they heard with all of the excitement in the air).
After some time spent getting to know their counselors and unpacking, we gathered for flag lowering where Mark officially opened camp. After flag, we went into the dining hall for our traditional first night meal, pizza and cookies. I thought the building was going to collapse with all of the yelling, cheering, stomping, and clapping as the first meal of the summer was rolled out.
Once dinner was finished (and everyone had cleaned up), we walked down the front lawn to Uncle Milts Outdoor Stage. Here, Mark introduced the administration of camp. What was great was seeing the creative songs and cheers groups came up with to introduce themselves. The campers loved seeing their Unit Leaders do their Unit Cheer and song (and so did we).
Tonight the campers are heading back to their bunks to go over rules, do icebreakers, and spend time bonding with their cabin mates and counselors.
We can’t stress enough how excited we are for this summer to FINALLY be here! We know it will be our best yet.
