It has been an incredible final few days of first session here at Camp Micah. On Friday night, we celebrated the final Shabbat of first session. It is always a bittersweet event, knowing we will say goodbye to so many friends in just two short days. In keeping with Micah tradition, the Dining Hall was decked out in blue gold, and campers wore their Friday night best. Many awards were given for All-Around Campers in each unit, as well as the Kavod Award. Congratulations to all recipients!
The day was a busy one at Micah, as we sent 30 campers to Frankenstein Cliffs for an all-day hike, and some of our art-savvy staff and children to the alpaca farm to experience the shearing process and further their understanding of fiber arts. There are so many diverse experiences to be had at Micah, and our campers all find ways to shine.
Saturday was filled with Visiting Day preparations, packing, a mini-Jimmy Fund Walk in preparation for the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk in September, the Island Swim, and the camp performance of The Little Mermaid. We were all so impressed with the talent on the stage this summer! We wrapped up our final day of first session with our weekly cookout, campfire, and havdalah as we said goodbye to our first session friends.
Today, we welcomed parents and relatives of our first and full session campers to Camp Micah for Visiting Day 2016. Even the unpredictable weather couldn’t keep us from having the time of our lives! As soon as the sun peeked through those early morning ominous clouds, families took full advantage of all Camp Micah has to offer. We were thrilled to see several families enjoying the wonderful adaptation of The Little Mermaid at Uncle Milts while other families decided to take on the Micah Ninja Warrior Course hoping to tackle the Warped Wall. Countless campers and loved ones had some serious fun in the sun at both our amazing waterfront and at the pool on this hot July day. Everyone joining us this Visiting Day was truly dazzled by an amazing lunch and drool-worthy table of fresh fruit and desserts! It was so touching to see the reaction on the faces of our campers and their parents as they were reunited for the first time in almost four weeks. After our final goodbyes and a yummy dinner, campers settled in for the night at the annual Micah Movieplex with some freshly popped popcorn. We are all looking forward to welcoming the second session campers tomorrow and can’t wait to take full advantage of the next three and a half weeks left of camp!
